According to Atlanta police, two kids were hurt in a shooting on the playground of an apartment complex in Mechanicsville on Wednesday night.
Just after 7:30 p.m., an officer was called to the Parkside at Mechanicsville apartments in Atlanta, which are situated near the intersection of McDaniel Street SW and Crumbley Street SW.
Police discovered a 12-year-old girl who had been shot in the shoulder and a 13-year-old boy who had been wounded in the hand when they arrived at the apartment complex.
Both children were rushed to the hospital for treatment. At last report, they were alert and conscious.
According to the police, their preliminary investigation suggests that there was a confrontation between two groups of children that turned violent and resulted in a gunshot.
The 12- and 13-year-old victims allegedly heard gunfire while in the complex’s parking lot and fled after hearing it. If they were the intended targets is unclear.
Officers did detain one person at the teen, but police have not said if anyone is facing charges yet.
The names of those involved have not been released.
