A mother from Memphis said that her son stabbed her twice in the kitchen of her residence early on Saturday.
The woman was receiving care in the Trauma Unit at St. Francis Hospital after being able to drive herself there.
Terrell Boyd, her 24-year-old son, was taken into custody and charged with serious assault.
Boyd, according to the victim, arrived at her home on Friday night to wash his clothes and take a shower.
The next day, she claimed, he came downstairs as she was preparing coffee, took a butcher knife out of a kitchen drawer, and stabbed her twice on her left side.
She admitted to authorities that she thought her son was having a mental breakdown and need assistance. She said that she overheard him talking to himself last summer.
In September, Boyd was charged with simple assault for allegedly punching a man inside a fast food restaurant on South Mendenhall.
