Grammy-nominated gospel singer DOE announced on social media that she is engaged to artist Orlando “IAMSON” Palmer by flashing her new ring!
With her smash single “When I Pray,” which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Gospel Song, Dominque DOE Jones made her solo debut.
Additionally, Orlando “IAMSON” Palmer makes music. He and his future spouse DOE were featured in the Christmas song “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”! Congrats to the husband and wife to be.
DOE sings the silent portion of “When I Pray” aloud, saying, “I’m not very eloquent in speech / I don’t always know how to sound holy when I speak.” She continues, nevertheless, that she can still pray since God, who never changes, doesn’t believe in formalities.
The lyrics of the songs alternate between a positive outlook on life (“Good Now” and “So Good”) and the difficulties of maintaining a public persona at a time when everything is recorded and posted on YouTube.
She complains in the song “I Try,” which was first included on the EP, “Give the people what they want or I’mma catch hell.” DOE, a young veteran in the spotlight, comes to the conclusion that “performance can’t buy you love,” but that doesn’t mean she won’t give it her all.
The EP also featured the singles “Brighter,” an upbeat hymn of praise to the Lord, and “Hey You,” DOE’s duet with her musical twin Jonathan McReynolds.
The title tune on the album showcases DOE’s most soulful vocal performance, punctuating the melody line with soaring high notes. Throughout “Mercy,” she continues to probe the upper reaches of her range while praising the Most High.
The inspirational song “What I’m Waiting For” blends a vocal line that sounds like Lady Gaga with the dramatic theatricality of Hillsong United. Similarly to “Brighter,” “Undoing” is a song of adoring adoration.
DOE has all the makings of a neo-soul musician, but she chooses to stay in the gospel realm, which is healthier for the genre.
