Fifteen employees at The Rock Church are quarantined at home after testing positive for the coronavirus, according to a statement sent to ABC 10News Sunday evening.

“We currently have 15 confirmed cases across our five physical locations. We are working with and helping these members of our Rock staff get the care and help they need,” a church spokesperson said in a statement.

The affected employees are currently quarantined at home and following health guidelines.

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the church is limiting its capacity at next week’s service.

“Our in-person Sunday services will be limited to our Point Loma and Microsite locations only on May 23,” church officials said.

The church says it will continue to follow CDC guidelines and clean and disinfect all building areas at its five San Diego County locations.

According to Lisa Penberthy, director of operations at Rock Church, the first three employees initially tested positive for COVID shortly after last week’s services. After conducting contact tracing, more employees began testing positive, a total of 15.

Penberthy says no one has been hospitalized, and the positive cases are both asymptomatic and symptomatic.

All the employees that tested positive for COVID-19 were not vaccinated. Rock Church has discussed vaccinations with their employees, but it is not a requirement, she said.

Penberthy says the employees mainly worked behind the stage or on the platform, so the risk is minimal to people who attended services last week.

“They’re not our at-the-door greeters; they’re not the ones mixing and mingling with our attendees at this point,” Penberthy said. She said if anyone is concerned about exposure, they can contact the church.

“But most likely, unless they were backstage or in a staff meeting, they have nothing to worry about,” she added.
