Police in Durham region are concerned there may be more victims after charging the pastor of a downtown Toronto church with sexually assaulting a member of his congregation.
Richard Brown, senior pastor of Kingsway Community Life Centre on Spadina Ave., north of Queen St., was arrested by police and charged with sexual assault.
He was released on a promise to appear.
Police say the victim, an adult male member of the church, had been counselled by Brown for the past three years.
The victim alleges that Brown, for the past several months, had began to make sexual advances toward him — culminating in a sexual assault that allegedly took place at the accused’s Pickering home in March 2019.
The victim notified police, and the investigation began.
Brown, according to his biography posted to the church’s website, founded Kingsway Community Life Centre in 2006.
Emigrating from England in 1990 with his wife, he earned an undergraduate degree Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto before earning his Master’s in Theology from Mt. Olive Bible Institute in Brooklin, New York.
