T.I. was recently asked about Chris Brown being detained and then released on a rape accusation in Paris, and the rapper said until more facts are in he’ll stand by the R&B singer.
“I know him personally and I don’t really know her,” Tip said Tuesday when TMZ caught up with him at LAX airport. He also suggested there’s a conspiracy to ruin Brown. “There hasn’t been any overwhelming facts that what he’s saying is not true, so I’m going to believe him.”
The “Whatever You Like” creator then talked about the #MeToo era and said women being empowered to speak up is a wonderful thing, but it also makes it easier for those who are being untruthful to ruin someone’s life.
“The climate of society right now is empowering victims, which is phenomenal,” Tip explained. “For women to find their voice and to have the strength to speak out against perpetrators, that’s phenomenal. But y’all also gotta realize that it’s arming people who have malicious intent and vindictive natures to go after people [who are] undeserving. There’s a flip side to it.”
Tip also said that today a lot of people are convicted in the court of public opinion before ever seeing a judge and jury, which isn’t the way things should be.
“I don’t care who you is, what color you is, what walk of life you come from, you’re supposed to have a fair trial,” he stated.
But the Atlanta rhymer also made it clear that if Brown is guilty of the accusation he needs to pay the price and being famous or talented shouldn’t protect him from that. Still, he won’t rush to judgment until more facts are presented, regardless of how loud the public outcry is.
“I’m not going to hop on a bandwagon because somebody said something that hasn’t been proven,” said T.I.
Since the arrest Monday, Brown has been released without charges pending further investigation. He’s now suing his accuser for defamation.
