A Sydney couple who installed a rainbow coloured “yes” letterbox outside their house say it has been vandalised twice and dog poo was left on their front doorstep.

Harley Stumm and his partner Fiona Wining installed the letterbox outside their inner city home in Redfern-Waterloo last month.

But within a week it was defaced with black spray paint.

The Sydney artist who created the letterbox, Mickey Quick, replaced it free of charge when he found out about the damage.

But again the letterbox was targeted by vandals, who knocked it off its fixing.

“[The vandals] had also written “no” over the “yes” but they did a bad job so it wasn’t very visible,” Mr Stumm told Fairfax.

The vandals behind the second attack also left an unpleasant surprise on the couple’s doorstep, a bag with dog poo inside, he said.

A local Uniting church which had displayed a rainbow flag has also been targeted by vandals, who have cut the flag down twice, South Sydney Uniting Church minister the Reverend Andrew Collins said.

“We are not sure if this is a more deliberate statement against the campaign or just someone playing games but, given it’s happened twice, I seem to think it isn’t just someone playing around,” he told Fairfax.

“We will keep replacing it if it comes down again,” Mr Collins said.
