Killer Mike recently spoke to Yahoo News about making sure his Second Amendment right to bear arms is preserved.

It’s a topic he’s been passionate about for a long while, and his interview comes at a time when presidential candidates Cory Booker and Kamala Harris have called for more stringent gun laws. Some of those changes include universal background checks, as well as a ban on assault rifles.

Mike said Booker and Harris’ proposals are on the opposite side of where he stands on the issue, and people who hold their kind of views make him suspicious.

“I don’t trust black leadership that wants to de-arm black people,” said the Run the Jewels member.

Mike — who’s a member of the National African American Gun Association — then said people of color have suffered from not being able to protect themselves from intimidation, harm, capture or death. He then cited a book written by author and historian Jared Diamond.

“If everyone owned guns from day one, it would have been a lot harder to commit acts like slavery and genocide on Native Americans,” the rapper explained.

“If you read the book ‘Guns, Germs and Steel,’ it kind of explains to you why a lot of the wars indigenous people lost was because people came with superior technology and guns,” Mike added.

He also challenged the idea that less guns in the black community will diminish crime, because a lot of police do more accusing of black folks than protecting them.

Being “A black man from the South” is what the Atlanta native said shaped his views, and because he doesn’t want to “Die from a home invasion,” he holds the belief that “A Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every black home.”

Mike also gave a grim warning to anyone who tries to call his bluff about protecting his home and family.

“In my household there are always going to be 10 or more weapons,” he stated. “We’re always going to be trained and proficient with them. And if anyone ever comes down my driveway and decides to exercise what perceived power they have, they will surely go out in the back of an ambulance dead.”

Mike has endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, as he did in the 2016 presidential election.
