For those who wanted to know more about Kirk Franklin, they’ll have their chance, because a movie on his life has been announced.
Deadline reports the project will be produced by DeVon Franklin, formerly of Sony, through his production company Franklin Entertainment. Kirk Franklin will be an executive producer on the film, via his record label Fo Yo Soul Entertainment.
The biopic is slated to delve into the Texas native’s early beginnings, before the multi-platinum selling albums, the 14 Grammy awards and the No. 1 chart positions.
The film will also go into some of the temptations the choir leader and author battled since he admitted to a pornography addiction many years ago.
The 49-year-old’s first album, released in 1993, was titled “Kirk Franklin & The Family,” which was the first gospel album to ever go platinum, meaning at least 1 million units were sold.
Since then he’s wracked up 13 No. 1 Billboard hits, and 13 of his songs have reached the top 10.
Kirk Franklin’s latest album, titled “Long Live Love,” was released on May 31, and with it he became the first artist to have a No. 1 album in all five of Billboard’s gospel charts: The Hot Gospel Songs list, Top Gospel Albums, Gospel Streaming Songs, Gospel Digital Songs Sales and Gospel Airplay.
For his part, DeVon Franklin started his career as a Hollywood producer by working for Will Smith’s company Overbrook Entertainment after he graduated from the University of Southern California.
He also worked as an executive at entertainment Metro-Goldywn-Mayer and produced movies such as “Miracles From Heaven” and “Heaven is For Real.” Devon Franklin has also been married to the actress Meagan Good for seven years.
At this time, neither a title or a release date for the biopic has been announced
