MEETING one of his idols for a one-on-one mentoring session was almost too much for Voice contestant Judah Kelly.
The 20-year-old burst into tears when he was surprised with a once in a lifetime tutoring session with Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.
“As soon as the door opened my heart rate went through the roof and I freaked out!” Judah told news.com.au.
The Queenslander is such a fan of Hudson’s that he even managed to momentarily overcome his fear of hugging other people.
“I was like, ‘screw it, you’re Jennifer Hudson, embrace me!’” he said.
After wiping away his tears and regaining his composure, Judah then got smooth.
“I suggested to her that maybe we go for lunch instead of mentoring,” Judah said, “and sadly it was declined”.
Hudson and coach Judah’s coach Delta Goodrem helped the contestant learn Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, one of the two songs he’ll sing during tomorrow’s semi-final showdown.
“Jennifer gave me advice about really owning the stage and having a presence because I’m quite a shy person normally,” Judah said about the mentoring session.
“And that’s exactly what Delta’s been telling me the whole time.”
Judah is one of eight contestants left in the Channel Nine talent show but four will be cut after tomorrow night’s show.
No one’s expecting Judah to be kicked off The Voice tomorrow night however, with Sportsbet currently listing him as the clear favourite to be crowned the winner.
As for Judah, he thinks a member of Kelly Rowland’s team has a pretty good shot at winning.
“Fasika, she just has a superstar attitude,” he said.
“It helps that we get along as well. Oh, and she’s a fantastic singer too which always helps.”
