And Ari really, really wants that burn book.
The flood of “thank u, next” parodies can stop now because we have a winner. On Wednesday night (Dec. 5), The Late Late Show host James Corden got into his Ari groove with a unique take on the movie-spoofing video that has been smashing viewing records on YouTube. Unlike Grande, though, Corden only had one man on his mind: Jeff Goldblum.
The bit opened with Corden thanking the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom actor and Capitol Studio Sessions piano man for coming to his show, with the host’s gratitude quickly tipping into a weird place. “What’s that music?” a nervous-looking Goldblum asked as the strains of Grande’s “next” floated up.
Cut to Corden lying on his belly in pajamas looking at his “Thank U, Jeff” burn book, packed with images of the actor from throughout his carer. “First saw him in The Fly/ But his face as grotesque/ Then he won independence from an alien mass/ And in Thor Ragnarok his performance was classic,” Corden crooned in an airy falsetto as he flipped through a book with disturbing cut-out images of Goldblum next to blood red messages including: DJ Sexy Jeff, Silver Fox and GBE= Goldblum Energy.
There was, of course, a dance routine in the middle featuring two dancers in dino suits (Goldblum actually kind of liked that part). It was all very sweet, the way Corden said Goldblum was his favorite guest and the best character actor and all. But then, well, things got odd. The only question Goldblum had was about the Corden’s “journal,” and how long he’d been keeping it.
The best part was that Grande saw it and loved it. “omg…… may i please….. please for christmas have the thank u, jeff book?” she tweeted. “it’s for a friend. promise.”
