An Instagram model and deckhand was found dead on a yacht in the Mediterranean this weekend.
Sinead McNamara, 20, was reportedly found unconscious around 2 a.m. local time aboard a Mexican billionaire’s yacht in the Greek port of Argostoli in Kefalonia on Friday. She was airlifted to a local hospital via helicopter but died during the transport.
“The Coast Guard of Kefalonia has ordered an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the 20-year-old Australian national as well as an autopsy-necropsy,” a local Greek newspaper reported.
McNamara, who spent part of her time as an Instagram model with over 15,000 followers on the platform, had been working on the yacht for the past four months, Fox News reports. The approximately 300-foot yacht is owned by Mexican mining billionaire Alberto Bailleres. It’s unclear if McNamara had any sort of relationship with the mogul.
Although the cause of McNamara’s death is unknown, it seems rather unexpected. She was expected to meet up with her mother and sister in Greece just days later.
Investigators are looking into the case and have ordered the boat to stay at the Greek port for further questioning.
