Michelle Williams is ready to walk down the aisle.
The former Destiny’s Child member, 37, and pastor Chad Johnson revealed they’ve been engaged for a month in an interview with People.
“We could not contain this any longer!” the singer told the magazine.
The couple first met at a spiritual retreat led by Johnson, 40, last March. Although they hit it off immediately, it would take a couple months and some flirtatious texting before the couple started dating, with their first official date taking place at a wedding in the Dominican Republic.
It was there, as Johnson tells it, that he realized Williams was who he wanted to be with.
“I told her, ‘I’ve been looking. I don’t want to look anymore. I’m done. My search is over,’” he said.
While much of the courtship has been long distance — in addition to Williams’ touring schedule, Johnson is the team chaplain for the Pittsburg Steelers and Los Angeles Dodgers – it was soon clear to the couple that they wanted to marry, and this March the pastor popped the question at the Pebble Beach, Calif., hotel he’d been staying at when he first reached out to her over text.
“I was just losing it!” Williams said of seeing Johnson down on one knee.
If it was up to the singer, the couple would wed right away, but her husband-to-be wants to make sure they get everything just right.
“We do wanna get married very, very soon,” she said. “We’ve been moving very quickly and planning. Why wait? I want to get married now, but he wants a wedding!”
