Drew Barrymore is leaving the action to the professionals.
While filming the first season of Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet,” Barrymore sustained a concussion that landed her in the hospital, leading her to step away from stunts.
“I will never do my own stunts again,” Barrymore told People. “That was the end of a wonderful era. I can look back at a bunch of movies that I totally was a baller and always threw myself in there. I whip it in ‘Charlie’s Angels!’ But I will never do a stunt again because I could’ve died and it was really scary.”
As part of a scene, Barrymore, 43, jumped on another actor’s back while filming and ended up falling six feet onto concrete. The stunt-gone-wrong landed the actress in the hospital for two days, where she underwent MRIs and CAT scans. Although she might have continued to do stuntwork earlier in her career, Barrymore said now she has two very important reasons to quit.
“I have two children,” Barrymore said, referring to 5-year-old Olive and 3-year-old Frankie, whom she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman. “When you don’t have kids, you’re not thinking about your mortality. Now that I have children, I will be sitting on the sidelines.”
