Well, that’s awkward.
A New Jersey archbishop sent out a bizarre tweet this week, saying “Nighty-night, baby. I love you” — and his spokesman says the post was actually meant for his sister.
Cardinal Joseph Tobin, the archbishop of Newark, has since deleted the tweet he posted Wednesday from his account @JoeTobin after users misinterpreted the message, said his spokesman Jim Goodness.
According to Goodness, Tobin, 65, has eight younger sisters and “they’re all his baby sisters.”
The 8:05 p.m. tweet read in full: “Supposed to be airborne in 10 minutes. Nighty-night, baby. I love you.”
The spokesman did not know how Tobin had been communicating with his sibling, but his Twitter page shows that he is not an active user. He last tweeted in November of last year.
Some Twitter users shamed Tobin over the tweet on the social media site.
“I love my sister, but I would never say to her: “Nighty-night, baby,” user @joshuamercer tweeted.
