An Ohio politician who made his career based off of Christian faith and anti-LGBT views has resigned after being caught having relations with a man. Wes Goodman, a Republican, was elected to represent the 87th District, in north-central Ohio, a little over a year ago. Before his election, he worked as an aide to US Representative Jim Jordan, another conservative anti-LGBT Republican.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, a witness reported seeing inappropriate conduct between Goodman and another man in his office. After the report, Goodman met with House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger where he confirmed the incident and later resigned.
Rosenberger said in a statement given on Wednesday,”I was alerted to details yesterday afternoon regarding his involvement in inappropriate behavior related to his state office,” “It became clear that his resignation was the most appropriate course of action for him, his family, the constituents of the 87th House District and this institution.”
In another statement, Goodman apologized to both his friends and supporters. “We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life. That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service,” he said. “For those whom I have let down, I’m sorry. As I move onto the next chapter of my life, I sincerely ask for privacy for myself, my family, and my friends.”
