A new networking event hosted by Urban MediaMakers is hoping to help white people branch out and make more black friends. Founder, Cheryle Moss says when explaining her reasoning for the event, “In the black community we know of white people who don’t have a lot of black friends.” Though the event’s Facebook page says they are hoping to do something to “positively challenge the negativity” others believe it will just give white people even more opportunities to take advantage of the phrase “But I have black friends!” when justifying racist remarks. What are your thoughts on the event?
