A Winston-Salem woman is charged with 50 counts of embezzlement after allegedly stealing from a local church.

Police arrested 48-year-old Barrett Kenan at her home on Friday on accusations that she has been embezzling money from Hope Presbyterian Church, 2050 N. Peace Haven Road, since 2013.

The investigation has been underway since June.

Police did not release how much money Kenan is accused of embezzling, but she was charged with 50 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses related to the investigation.

Kenan was brought before a Forsyth County Magistrate who remanded her to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center.

Kenan is being held on $15,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 30.

Authorities said the investigation remains active by Winston-Salem detectives as additional charges may follow.
