Broward’s Special Victims Unit is investigating two possibly related attempted sexual battery cases in which an intruder entered the homes of two women because the doors were unlocked in Deerfield Beach.

The Broward Sherriff’s Office said the SVU detectives are trying to determine whether the two cases that occurred on Oct. 4 are related because the women live in nearby condominiums around the area of A1A and Hillsboro Boulevard and Hillsboro Boulevard and 21st Avenue.

The suspect is described as a white male about 5′ 10″ in his 30s who has facial hair, possibly a goatee, and a medium build. He had short, dark hair – either because it was cut or because he is balding.

One of the victims spoke to NBC 6 on Thursday.

“Somebody came in my room, and he was wet. It was raining that night. And he was sandy,” the victim said. “He said ‘sweetie, sweetie, sweetie’ and he started kissing me on the mouth and the cheeks. He came in and – behind me – and put his arms around me.”

“Each victim told detectives that the unidentified intruder entered their home through an unlocked door in the early morning hours,” the police department said in a statement. “BSO detectives are reminding residents to lock their doors and always completely secure their homes.”

The first victim, a 53-year-old woman, said the introducer entered her home at about 1:30 a.m. The second victim, a 33-year-old woman, said the intruder attacked her with a knife and attempted to sexually batter her. The victim’s names will not be released due to the nature of the reported crimes.
