With the recent success of live-action remakes like ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ Disney is doubling down with another remake of a classic film, ‘Aladdin!’
It looks like Will Smith will be joining the live-action remake of Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ as the Genie, a voiceover role previously filed by the late Robin Williams in the animated film.
According to Rolling Stone and Variety, the script for the film was written by John August and will be directed by Guy Richie. Though other details are still scarce, along with Will’s character, new comers Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott with be playing Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. ‘Aladdin’ was the highest grossing film of the year back in 1992 and won Academy Awards for best score and best song with “A Whole New World.”
Disney has confirmed their plans to continue to remake other classics like ‘Dumbo’ and ‘Mulan’ and may be tapping other big stars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Danny DeVito and Colin Farrell.
