Officers with the Dothan Police Department responded to a robbery/burglary call Sunday at Crossroads Baptist Church on Westgate Parkway, at approximately 10:40 p.m.
“From the information I have received, two church employees were inside the building at the time the altercation occurred,” Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish said. “An additional church employee had left the premises to run an errand and arrived back after the suspect had entered into the church.”
“From my understanding, the employees were counting the church offerings,” Parrish said. “During the robbery, one of the employees shot the suspect. The suspect fled from inside the church building and collapsed outside from his injuries.”
According to Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd, the suspect suffered a single gunshot wound. No identification was found on the suspect. The coroner’s office is waiting for a positive identification from the suspect’s fingerprints. The suspect was pronounced dead at 1:18 a.m. Monday.
Dothan Police Investigators are still investigating the case.
