ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Police want to find the man who tried to sexually assault a pregnant woman while she walked in a public park with her daughter.
According to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, the victim was pushing her one-year-old daughter in a stroller on a paved path near the equestrian center in Wills Park at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday when a man forced her off the trail at knife point.
“I was walking on the trail and he came up behind me with a knife and he tried to take me back into the barn area and was going to sexually assault me,” said the mother in the 911 call.
According to the Alpharetta Police report, the attacker held the knife on the left side of the pregnant woman’s stomach, forcing her “to walk the stroller toward the barn and to keep quiet.” The report also states that the mother “told the suspect that she was pregnant and pleaded with him not to hurt her.”
Investigators said when the attacker tried to sexually assault the mother; she was able to fight him off.
“She elbowed and kicked and screamed and because of that he was unsuccessful,” said John Robison, Alpharetta director of public safety.
“I pushed him away and he cut me with his knife and sprayed me with pepper spray and I fought back and I started screaming and he got scared and he ran,” said the victim to the 911 dispatcher.
Investigators said the mother had two cuts on her arm. According to the police report, the attacker took off into the woods; the woman ran towards her daughter to make sure she was OK.
“I have a baby with me already and I am pregnant so I just took off all I cared about was my kid I thought he was running towards my kid,” said the victim.
According to police, there were witnesses who saw the suspect. Investigators described him as a black male between 35 and 40 years old.
“She screamed and that got people’s attention,” added Robison. “I give her full credit in fighting the guy off.”
Alpharetta officials have asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to provide a sketch artist to help create a composite of the suspect. They hope to release that to the public in the next few days.
