A former Houston County children’s pastor has pleaded not guilty to charges that he molested several young boys.
By entering a written plea, 39-year old William Wesley Williamson avoided arraignment scheduled today (Wednesday.)
Since his arrest earlier this year, Williamson has yet to appear in court. In a unique, but not unprecedented move, he also wasn’t present during a preliminary hearing a few months ago.
Williamson is charged with four counts of sex abuse, acts investigators say he committed while serving at Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
Houston County Sheriff’s deputies say Williamson inappropriately touched the boys, all less than 12, during church-related functions. They claim he brushed against their private areas while they were clothed.
The church placed Williamson, father of seven, on leave after receiving reports of possible misconduct and then fired him in March when he was arrested. Court records show he has since moved to Florida.
Williamson’s trial is scheduled January 14.
