A Savannah pastor is warning the community about a scammer who claims he’s with the Second Ebenezer Baptist Church in Savannah.
Pastor Ricardo Manuel tells News 3 the man is impersonating him in a scheme to take your money. The culprit first struck a month ago. Last week, Manuel says he’s back. This time, the impersonator is going door to door.
“Nobody in my church solicits funds going door to door to do that,” he said.
A month ago, Manuel says the man was first spotted at Sho’tyme Barbershop in Savannah. Employees there tell News 3 the imposter came in asking for money for a back-to-school program.
“God has taken very good care of us as a church and we don’t have to go door to door — asking people for something like that. All our children have backpacks,” said Manuel.
Last week, the scammer was apparently spotted again at someone’s home in downtown Savannah. Pastor Manuel isn’t sure who he is, but he’s sure he’ll get caught.
“I have notified the police. They are going to get caught. And they don’t have to do that. If they are in need of money — they should just come to the church or go somewhere to seek help. But they’re going to get caught because they’re doing something that’s unethical,” he said.
So far, the pastor has not confirmed the man stole any money. That’s why he hasn’t filed a police report.
If you know anything about this case, call the Savannah Police Department.
