The Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio — also at the Ohio Statehouse Wednesday during lawmakers’ discussion over the heartbeat bill — is working on its own ways to give alternatives to women considering abortion.
In 2003, the church started a home for pregnant teens. It’s grown to help women beyond that. But the leader of the church still believes in the premise behind it, helping women in need, not just telling them they shouldn’t get an abortion. She herself is the result of someone not going through with it.
“I feel like a victory has been won, we’ve been trying to do this for many years, stop as many abortions as we possibly can because I owe my life to a mother who decided not to have an abortion,” said Pastor Darlene Bishop.
The church also supports a local pregnancy center and is building housing on church grounds for foster children.
