A terrifying incident unfolded on Mother’s Day in Florida as police investigate the attempted abduction of a 6-year-old girl. According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, the young girl was walking home from church hand-in-hand with her mother when an unknown suspect tried to separate them.
Fortunately, the quick thinking and protective instincts of the girl’s mother prevented the abduction from taking place. Unable to remove the child from her mother’s grip, the suspect fled the scene. Both the mother and the child emerged physically unharmed from the encounter.
The girl’s father, Kelly Granger, shared his shock and distress upon learning about the incident. He described the moment as his heart sinking and feeling a sense of tunnel vision. The suspect allegedly attempted to physically harm the mother and daughter with a karate chop.
Daytona Beach police are now seeking a lighter-skinned Black female, estimated to be between 25 to 35 years old and standing between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall. She has a skinny build and was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and long red skirt, with her short black hair tied in a bun.
As authorities work diligently to apprehend the suspect, the local church, Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Daytona Beach, has issued a notification advising parents not to allow their children to walk home alone during the ongoing investigation.
Kelly Granger has made a heartfelt plea for the suspect to surrender, urging her to seek help and turn herself in. He empathizes with any fear or distress the suspect may be experiencing, but stresses the importance of taking responsibility for her actions.
The Daytona Beach police urge anyone with information about the crime to contact them directly at 386-671-5200 or reach out to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 386-248-1777.
In the face of such alarming incidents, it is crucial for communities to remain vigilant and united. By working together and supporting law enforcement efforts, we can help ensure the safety and well-being of our children.
