Atlanta mayor pledges grant for Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands is home to more than 106,000 Americans. More than 33,000 people, which is over a third of the U.S. territory’s population, are still awaiting help from FEMA

– The city of Atlanta will help with relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as communities continue to recover from Hurricane Maria.

Mayor Kasim Reed and other leaders presented a $100,000 check Thursday morning to Map International.

The organization will use the money for critically-needed medical supplies.

Mayor Reed said the grant will leverage $3.1 million in lifesaving supplies for people on both islands.
