Gregory Renee Adams, 63, pastor of Lifesong Ministries in Citronelle charged with raping multiple women in his congregation.
A Citronelle pastor is apologizing after being accused of sexual assault.
Mobile police says it’s pre-preliminary investigation suggests Gregory Adams contacted some of his victims through churches in Citronelle, Alabama and Waynesboro, Mississippi.
Citronelle police say Adams was taken into custody this afternoon in Wagersville at his son’s house.
MPD says this has been an extensive sexual assault investigation and it’s thankful Adams is off the street.
“Gregory Adams violated a sacred trust of this community those that depended on him most he preyed on and he took advantage of,” said Public Safety Director Lawrence Battiste.
63-year-old Gregory Adams is accused of sexually assaulting multiple members of his congregation.
Public Safety Director Lawrence Battiste says it began when some victims were juveniles.
“Our victims began their traumatic experience with him beginning at about 12 and it continued until aout 30 to 31 years of age,” said Battiste.
Adams’ family confirms he was the pastor at Life Song Ministries in Citronelle.
“People may go to a particular church they may reside here in the city limits of Mobile and may commute to church someplace else. At the end of the day these crimes he is charged with confined within city of Mobile jurisdiction,” said Battiste.
Adams was silent when walking out of MPD headquarters in handcuffs to a patrol car.
He eventually apologized.
“You nodded your head that you were sorry to the victims. Would you like to say sorry to them physically,” asked NBC 15’s Rachael Wilkerson.
“I’m sorry,” said Adams.
Investigators say sorry will never be enough for the trauma he’s caused the victims.
Adams is charged with three counts of rape 1st degree, two counts of rape 2nd degree, three counts of sodomy 1st degree, and two counts of sexual abuse.
Battiste believes there may be more victims and says the department will do all it came to bring them justice.
“Anybody that comes forward with information we are going to follow through with it and try to make sure if they were victimized to hold him accountable for his actions,” said Battiste.
This is a multi-agency investigation. If you were harmed by Adams or know someone that was you’re asked to contact police.
MPD’s number is 251-208-7211.
