A homicide investigation is underway in South Los Angeles on Monday after a 4-year-old girl died the previous day, according to LAPD.
Officers first initiated a death investigation after a call came in just after 11:15 a.m. Sunday from the hospital where the child was taken, a Los Angeles Police Department official said.
A cause of death was not immediately released, but LAPD Officer Jeff Lee confirmed to KTLA Monday morning that it is being investigated as a homicide.
On Sunday, detectives went to the girl’s home in the 1500 block of East 42nd Street — which is located in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of South L.A. — to investigate. The child’s parents were also interviewed, police said.
Video taken by a freelance photojournalist at the scene showed the single-story residence cordoned off with crime-scene tape, and several law enforcement officers outside.
A woman was escorted away in the backseat of a police vehicle, the footage showed, but it was not immediately known why.
Lee did not say whether anyone has been detained or arrested in connection with the death.
He also did not identify the victim.
No additional information was immediately released.
